Granville Island is one of Vancouver's most unique locations. It started as a man-made island created to make room for the Industrial Boom of the 20th Century and many of the old buildings from this time were repurposed and remodeled to house the restaurants, shops and galleries that exist today.
Located under the Granville Bridge, Granville Island has been named Vancouver's "Best Outdoor Place in the Rain." Even if the weather becomes cloudy and gloomy, the cover of the bridge or many surrounding stops still make for a highly enjoyable experience. As a new rain-friendly addition, Granville Island is now also home to Vancouver's only free, covered and accessible skateboarding park.
Granville Island offers a wide variety of places to explore. Its Public Market is one of its most famous, full of local vendors selling fresh fruit and vegetables, prepared dishes, and various handcrafted items.
Originally named the "Industrial Island," Granville Island ended up adopting the name of the bridge running overhead. Under the bridge hides a wealth of history, art and a vibrant community. If you ask any Vancouverite or tourist the top places to visit, Granville Island will surely be listed.
Public Food Market – The busiest place in Granville Island is the Public Market and for good reason. It is packed with food vendors with prepared meals, specialty drinks and local produce. Stalls for local artisans line some of the halls with many varieties of handmade crafts and gifts.
Local Artist Shops – All throughout the streets are clusters of shops that carry everything from stationary, hand made jewelry and ceramics, to clothing, art pieces, souvenirs and musical instruments. Many artists choose to sell their wares in Granville Island, close to the theatres and galleries that call this area home.
Houseboat Village – One of the more unique walks on the Island is to take a stroll down the avenue of houseboats. The residents here live in homes constructed to float in the waters of False Creek and combine the elegant shapes of modern architecture with the functionality of staying afloat on the gentle waters.

1:00 - Depart CES Vancouver and walk to the Waterfront bus stop.
1:10 - Take public transport to Granville Island (approx. 30 mins by bus).
1:45 - Arrive at Granville and walk into the island, begin the tour.
2:00 - Pause to take photos at Granville Hill and the Canadian flag.
2:15 - Walk through Sea Village and the east side of the island.
2:45 - End tour at the public market, free time begins to explore the shops.
3:45 - Reconvene at market entrance and return to the bus stop.
4:00 - Board bus back to Waterfront Station.
4:30 - Return to Waterfront Station.
